Microsoft telah membangunkan Windows 8 dengan bertujuan memberikan pengalaman perkomputeran yang berbeza di mana User Interface a.k.a antara muka Windows dalam bentuk live tiles metro (minimalist) diperkenalkan. Ia bagi memudahkan pengguna pada pelbagai peringkat umur untuk mencapai sesuatu aplikasi Windows dan langkah tersebut telah mendapat makluman positif pengguna. Kini Microsoft begitu komited untuk memasuki era dunia perkomputeran sentuh sepenuhnya dan tidak ia juga turut merangkumi peranti bergerak seperti telefon pintar dengan memperkenalkan platform Windows Phone 8 dengan kerjasama syarikat-syarikat gergasi pengeluar telefon dunia, Nokia & juga HTC. Microsoft juga turut menghasilkan tabletnya sendiri menerusi tablet yang dikenali sebagai Surface. Ini secara tak langsung membolehkan Micrososft bersaing secara sihat dengan gergasi Perkomputeran dunia kini Apple dan juga Google.
Aplikasi siap-bina (built-in) yang didatangkan terus dalam sistem operasi Windows 8 seperti Xbox SmartGlass, Skype, perkhidmatan komputer awan (cloud) menerusi SkyDrive dan penstriman Muzik Xbox telah memberikan kemudahan kepada samada pengguna sedia ada ataupun pengguna baru Windows. Jika Apple mempunyai kedai Aplikasi secara dalam talian menerusi Apps Store dan juga Google menerusi Google Play Store, kini Microsoft juga ada kedai aplikasi dalam talian sendiri menerusi Windows Store walaupun agak terlewat untuk Microsoft untuk membangunkannya. Mudah kata tepuk dada, tanya selera masing-masing. Kini pilihan peranti komputer tidak seperti dulu yang hanya didominasi oleh Syarikat Micrsosoft sahaja.
